Expectation of Leadership

This has been something on my mind for a while now. It was about six months ago that I realised I wasn’t really sure how I was going to deal with moving from being an employee to running my own business and this scared me. How was I going to feel not having to commute to work every day? Would I get distracted working from home with all the stuff around the house that needs doing? Was I capable of being my own boss and not working for someone? Would I be successful?

I’m happy to say I have shifted my mindset and I can now see myself running my online business and I can see myself working from home successfully.  I listened to a training call recently though that brought up a few ghosts for me! The main question my colleague asked was “Would you want you as a leader?” and my immediate answer was “I don’t know?”

So, I’ve been working on me; making small changes, setting intentions and showing up as the person I want to be. Because this question brought all those initial fears home and I suddenly realised I had been feeling so overwhelmed about building my business that I hadn’t really thought about when I start building my own team and encouraging and leading them. The points I took from this call have helped me re-focus on this one important element of being successful – leading from the front! I hope you find some value in the tips below too.

Ask yourself – If you were a prospect about to get started today, would you want yourself as a leader?

The first thing you need to do to attract the right people to your business is to build a mental avatar of your perfect prospect; who is it that you want to attract? Do they treat their business as a hobby? Is their business a priority to them? Are they showing up in their daily lives?

People procrastinate, play a waiting game, are tyre kickers and not prioritising what’s important. These are not the leaders you want in your team!

Look for people in your business that are:

  • On purpose
  • Do what they say they are going to do
  • Not treating it as a hobby and putting their business last
  • Who wants to take their life and business to the next level
  • Motivated, passionate and has drive
  • Who show up in a professional way

Now that your perfect prospect is in business are they following the system? Are they doing daily activities for success? Are they showing up?

Once you start your business you need to get consistent and don’t treat it like a hobby. You may need to sacrifice some things (get up early, go to bed late) now for what you want later so don’t stop start or your business will stop start.

You are looking for an ideal team member:

  • Who is coach-able and trainable
  • Who follows the system and doesn’t try and reinvent the wheel. Go back to basics, the system works
  • People will come in with a wealth of experience whether in sales or marketing but they may have to step back. If your business system works, it’s there for a reason, follow it.

Is your ideal prospect attending live events? You may have an online home based business but it’s important to show up and be able to mastermind with leaders, whether on the live stream at the moment or in person when we get back to normal!

  • Events are a great way to raise your vibration and you are looking for people who want to play the big game. People who want to build their business in order to attend events
  • You want someone who finds value in masterminding and communicating one to one with people and doesn’t just hibernate in their office. Someone who wants to hang around with the leaders of their company.

Does your perfect prospect mastermind with you?  Do you want your team to mastermind with you?

  • You will leave the calls feeling empowered and on purpose
  • Calls will motivate your team
  • You are here to provide a service to your team members to help them build their business.
  • We are in the business of helping.  You are not here to chase or micro manage them but have them come to you with solutions to brainstorm. Always let them know that they get one to one support.

You need to expect masterminding as it makes you a good leader and you will attract the same in to your team. Masterminding helps us up skill and develop.

How would your ideal prospect handle situations?

  • In business we are not looking to talk to everyone, just the right person, so lose the attachment.  Don’t think the person won’t answer the phone because then they won’t.  Be positive. You will attract what you are thinking.
  • Not everyone is the right person
  • Look for the positives in everyday  – if you haven’t been able to connect with many people on the phone see it as an opportunity to get more marketing or personal development done
  • Transmutation of energy – energy never dies so hold on to your higher energy and bring people to your level, don’t drop to theirs if they are feeling low

When dealing with prospects be aware of your own energy levels. How are you feeling? Don’t pretend to be in a good mood on the phone as you will just drop to the lower vibration state when you hang up and you would have been better off not calling at all.

  • If you see someone in a lower state than you, talk to them, compliment them, smile and see how you raise their vibration.
  • If you are feeling low then go and do something fun to raise your own level.

Just as I am a leader I have an expectation of leadership in others – remind yourself of this daily and you will attract your perfect prospect to your team.

I can’t remember who the following quote is by, but it’s definitely worth remembering:

“SOME WILL. SOME WON’T. SO WHAT. SOMEONES WAITING”

Now ask yourself

  • Are you showing up as your own ideal team member
  • Are you being who you want to attract into your business
  • Would you want yourself as a leader?

It’s OK if you answered No to this question but then ask yourself – what can I do today to change that and that my future self would thank me for?

You’ve got this
